Hello,
We have a situation where we have more than one scanner of the same type on the network.
Since the twain sources appear to be defined per device *type* how would we go about simultaneously scanning from 2 scanners of the same type.

Eben
Scanning from multiple network sources of same type

Hello Eben,
I'm not sure I have understood your problem.
Do you have two scanners with the same name in device selection dialog?
Best regards, Alexander

Re: Scanning from multiple network sources of same type
Hi Alex,
In essence, yes.
Since we are working with rather high-end MFPs we don't have 2 on hand (in our development environment) so I have to make some assumptions. We are waiting for two MFPs of the same type. They should arrive within the next couple of days.
Do you know how one would handle a situation like that? We already have scenarios like this. However, each MFP is attached to one machine. We are looking at a central server to handle all the MFP-related tasks so it would need to scan from the same type of MFP but with a specific IP address. There could be N scanners. I think the most we have now is something like 4 MFPs of the same type on the same network.
Hope that makes sense.

Eben

Re: Scanning from multiple network sources of same type
We've made a test today: two scanners both of the same type connected to the same machine.
Our Twain advanced example as usually showed that only one TWAIN driver is available for choosing in sources dialog.
When running acquisition the scanning was done on the first scanner (which was the first one the TWAIN driver was installed with).
If we break the connection with the first scanner and run the acquisition the scanning will be done on second scanner w/o any problems.
If we connect the first scanner again and run the acquisition the scanning will be done on first scanner again.
Hope this would help.

Hi Yuri,
Does this mean there were 2 twain sources listed for selection? If so, did both have the same name?
Once our MFPs arrive I'll have a test and see.

Re: Scanning from multiple network sources of same type
Hi Eben,
The answer was in my previous post. There was displayed only one TWAIN source in device selection dialog.
It is generally impossible to install the same TWAIN driver on the same machine twice. The system would say something like
"The software is already installed".
Please run your own test and let us know.
Kind regards,
Yuri

Re: Scanning from multiple network sources of same type
Hello,
Our two Ricoh Aficio C242SF MFPs have arrived.
We cannot scan from both from the same PC. Since there is one twain source it only picks one scanner. We had a look in the registry if there is perhaps some place that one can set the IP address and maybe duplicate the source but to no avail.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Eben
